Publicity 101

Publicity 101 - that's one course I somehow missed at two prestigious universities during both a liberal arts undergraduate and an MBA graduate degree.  If you're in the same boat, maybe you’d like catch up as well?  This blog provides ideas directly relevant to advancing your career, this podcast is the first of a series ito teach you how pubicity can move you ahead.

Part I offers the opportunity to "learn from a master".  Rick Frishman, president of Planned TV Arts was gracious enough to do a two-part interview with me for the benefit of my clients and colleagues.  If you'd like to receive notice about Part II later this month, please subscribe to this blog.

Rick has led publicity campaigns for celebrities, authors, and companies for over 30 years.  His clients include Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie), Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul), Sofia Loren, Arnold Palmer, William Shatner, President Jimmy Carter and President Bill Clinton.  He is also an executive of Morgan James Publishing which publishes nonfiction and self-help books and audio content.

Rick is truly an expert in his field, yet he makes the information accessible and fun.  In this first podcast, I ask Rick about his career and his philosophy:
   • What costs absolutely nothing and radically improves your first impression on others?
   • How does positive motivation translate into career success?
   • Why should you write a book? Surprise: the real motivation shouldn’t be money.
   • Why "publicity is the secret sauce" and how you can make it happen?
   • What is an ethical bribe and why should you offer one?

Rick also explains concrete ways to advance your career through publicity
   • Giving back without expectations.
   • Taking your first step to "develop a herd".
   • Three ways to increase the revenue-generating impact of your website.
   • What you can do in 20 seconds a day to make a special impression on colleagues and clients.
   • A practice which helps people, elevates your professional standing, and introduces you to subject experts.
